A Fix Is Incoming For Destiny 2’s Broken Nightfall Loot Drops

Last week, Destiny 2 players were frustrated to discover that a unique Legendary weapon which was supposed to drop from that week’s Nightfall strike just wasn’t dropping, like at all. It wasn’t long before those same players started to suspect that the game’s Nightfall loot table might be bugged, and it turns out they were right. Now, Bungie has announced it has identified the issue that’s causing Nightfalls to be so stingy, though it doesn’t yet have a timetable for when a fix will be deployed.

Nightfall loot should hopefully be fixed soon.

Last week’s Nightfall strike was Tree of Probabilities, one of the new strikes that was added into Destiny 2 with the Curse of Osiris DLC expansion. More loot-driven players were naturally excited since the Nightfall version of Tree of Probabilities is the only place where the D.F.A., a highly sought after Legendary hand cannon, can drop. However, some players wound up running through the Tree of Probabilities Nightfall over 50 times without ever seeing one D.F.A. drop for themselves or their teammates. Since it was the first time that the Tree of Probabilities Nightfall had been rotated in since the launch of Destiny 2’s newer Warmind expansion, players began speculating that the expansion might have introduced some sort of bug that was keeping the D.F.A. from dropping.

Bungie investigated, and as it turns out, there was indeed an issue that was preventing Nightfall-exclusive loot from dropping. Not only that, but the issue was affecting not only Curse of Osiris strikes but Destiny 2’s base game strikes as well. Players were understandably livid over the fact that they had wasted many hours grinding for loot that had no chance of dropping, but there was little Bungie could do on its end until it identified the issue.

Now, Bungie has confirmed via Twitter that the issue has been found, and a fix is currently being worked on. A timetable for when the fix will be ready hasn’t been shared yet, but Bungie promises more information should be available later this week. In the meantime, you might want to hold off on running Nightfalls if your goal is to score some exclusive loot.

Along with additional information on the Nightfall fix, Bungie will also be unveiling its year two content plans for Destiny 2 this week. Those plans include the implementation of new ancillary systems as well as the release of a brand new expansion that will be more on scale with the original Destiny’s The Taken King expansion.
