Call of Duty Black Ops 4: PC Pre-loading Begins Oct 9, 120 FPS for Blackout at Launch

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 developer Treyarch has disclosed some new details regarding the game’s upcoming PC launch. Those playing the PC Battle.net version will be able to pre-load the game in just a few days. Also, Blackout on PC will begin at a 120 FPS cap at launch, but Treyarch plans on raising that cap.

Treyarch plans on increasing Black Ops 4's Blackout FPS.

Black Ops 4 Pre-Loading

As was confirmed in this Reddit update (link), Treyarch already has a plan in place for Black Ops 4’s PC rollout. Those who purchased the game on PC can begin pre-loading tomorrow, October 9. This will ensure they’re ready to go when Black Ops 4 launches in full this upcoming Friday, October 12. As for the Blackout framerate, it will begin with a 120 FPS (frames per second) cap. However, the ultimate goal is to enable uncapped framerates as soon as possible.

Black Ops 4 Blackout FPS

Here’s the plan for the Blackout FPS progression in Treyarch’s own words:

  • At launch we will start Blackout with a 120 FPS cap on PC
  • Ensure the moment the game launches that it has high stability for every player
  • Raise to 144 FPS as soon as the servers are stable
  • Assuming all looks good, enable uncapped framerates within the first few days

Treyarch also clarified that the above plan only applies to Black Ops 4’s Blackout mode. On PC, framerates for Zombies and standard multiplayer will be uncapped right from the get-go. Granted, only the most dedicated PC gamers will likely care about uncapped framerates (or even know what they are). It’s still nice that Treyarch is working to get the feature up as quickly as possible though. Treyarch’s catering to the PC crowd is especially fortuitous given how anti-PC some previous Call of Duty games have been.

Similar to Destiny 2, Call of Duty Black Ops 4 for PC will only be available via Blizzard’s Battle.net platform. The platform is a free download, and it’s especially handy if you already play any of Blizzard’s games. In other Black Ops 4 news, Activision has teamed up with Kellogg for a Pringles-themed double XP promotion. Between now and December, purchasing specific Pringles products can net you double XP codes for use in Black Ops 4’s multiplayer.

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 launches for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on October 12.
