Devs are Considering Whether to Include a Cyberpunk 2077 Photo Mode

According to a senior developer at CD Projekt Red, the studio is currently considering whether to include a Cyberpunk 2077 photo mode. However, it sounds as though no firm decision has been made yet, so this may not be something which is available at launch.

The information comes from a recent interview with Quest Director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz. Asked about whether there might be a Cyberpunk 2077 photo mode, Tomaszkiewicz said; “For sure this is something we are considering seriously, seeing how popular this feature is in many different games. Is it going to happen? It’s hard to tell at this point.” Confusingly, his statement contradicts a tweet made by the Cyberpunk 2077 account back in August of last year; a statement which seemed to confirm that the game would have a photo mode.

Will There Actually be a Cyberpunk 2077 Photo Mode?

As Tomaszkiewicz says, it certainly wouldn’t be surprising to see a photo mode included in the game. With the sheer visual quality of so many triple-A releases, many studios have taken to including such a mode, particularly in the last year. Cyberpunk 2077 would certainly fall into that category; after all, what has been shown of the game so far has been near universally stunning. There’s no doubt that many fans are hoping for a photo mode to be included. However, photo modes have often been something which studios have added to their games post-launch, presumably because there are many other more important things to work on in the lead-up to a release. It’s possible that the studio has plans for a photo mode, but now isn’t sure whether they can get it into the game by launch.

Cyberpunk 2077 Photo Mode a Possibility

God of War, for example, got a photo mode in one of its post-launch updates. Santa Monica Studios certainly hasn’t been the only studio to release a photo mode in this fashion. However, there are also hardware limitations to consider. Last year, Quantic Dream cancelled their plans to release a photo mode for Detroit: Become Human after revealing that they simply couldn’t find a way to fit one into the game on current PlayStation hardware. Given that Cyberpunk 2077 will be releasing on current-generation consoles, they may also have similar concerns.
