Destiny 2 Forsaken Pre-Patch Will Arrive on August 28

In a recent development roadmap update article, Bungie confirmed that while certain upcoming Destiny 2 features won’t be arriving until after the launch of next month’s Forsaken expansion, several *other* features, including the previously confirmed Heroic story missions, will actually be arriving ahead of Forsaken’s deployment.

The updated Destiny 2 development roadmap.

According to the new development roadmap, Bungie will be deploying a pre-patch for the Forsaken expansion on August 28, a full week ahead of Forsaken’s September 4 launch. The pre-patch will enable a number of new features, allowing players to acclimate to the changes before Forsaken arrives in full. The pre-patch will enable the following features:

  • Weapon slot changes
  • Milestone and challenge updates
  • Heroic story missions
  • Bulk shader deletion
  • Director updates
  • 200 additional vault slots (bringing the total up to 500)

More substantial gameplay additions such as in-game triumphs, gear collections, and randomized perks for weapons won’t arrive until Forsaken’s September 4 launch. It should also be mentioned that the new features included in the August 28 pre-patch will be free for all players regardless of whether or not they purchase the Forsaken expansion.

As a final note, Bungie was careful to clarify that not everything included in the 2.0.0.1 entry on the development roadmap will be immediately available on September 4. Forsaken’s launch will mean that power will matter in the Iron Banner and Trials of the Nine PvP modes, but players will still need to wait until those events are live to take advantage of those changes. The development roadmap also clarified that there will be a total of four new maps added to the Crucible PvP map rotation, but one of those maps will be exclusive to PlayStation 4 for the time being.

Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion will launch on September 4 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
