DICE Details Battlefield 5 Squad Conquest Hamada Map Variant

When Lightning Strikes, the second chapter of Battlefield 5’s Tides of War, launches on the 17th of January, Squad Conquest will be available to play immediately. However, the mode will only be available for two weeks, leading up to the release of Combined Arms. The mode features two teams of 8 players competing in a miniature version of Conquest, and takes place on one of three special map variants; condensed versions of the Arras, Hamada, and Rotterdam maps.

The Battlefield 5 Hamada Squad Conquest Map Variant

While Hamada shares the title of largest Battlefield 5 map with Panzerstorm, it’s Battlefield 5 Squad Conquest variant isn’t the largest; the Arras map variant has that honour. The Hamada map variant takes place on a section of the map’s more rugged terrain, with three flags arranged among the ruins. The Allies will be starting at Flag A, while the Axis HQ is at Flag C, in the northern corner of the map; “Immediate to the Axis HQ is Flag C,” explains DICE; “Desert Ruins, found on the edge of a barren landscape of gravel and bare rock.”

“The highly contested Flag B, Temple,” continues the map description; “is an infantry trap at all levels. Barbed wire and sandbag Fortifications control access to the flag, but higher levels provide elevation for defenders to launch surprise attacks. Despite its abbreviated layout, Squad Conquest on Hamada offers a variety of strategic arrangements in a compact package.”

Like the Arras map variant, this version of Hamada features just two vehicles; one tank for each team. While these are certainly very dangerous when your team only consists of eight people, the dense, rugged terrain should give infantry plenty of opportunities to get close with anti-tank explosives. This version of the map will only be available in Squad Conquest, which will be available from the 17th of January to the 30th. It’s unknown at present if DICE plans to bring the mode back at some later date.
