DICE Details Planned Improvements After Battlefield 5 Open Beta

The Battlefield 5 Open Beta recently came to an end, and in its wake, DICE has set to work on an array of alterations and improvements. Fan reactions to the open beta seem to have been mostly positive. However, the event certainly had several problems. The profanity filter on PC, for example, was clearly not working as intended. Between now and the game’s November release date, DICE has now identified several key areas for improvement.

Key Areas for Improvement Following the Battlefield 5 Open Beta

A representative of DICE posted a complete list of the key areas on Reddit yesterday. Without going into excessive detail, the list details eight specific areas which DICE plans to focus improvements on. Those areas are as follows:

  • Squad Play and Matchmaking; Several changes are already in place and additional improvements will be made to secure the best possible launch experience.”
  • Attrition; Scarcity of ammo and health is something we want to get just right, and the Open Beta gave use a lot of info on how to balance it.”
  • Visibility; Distance haze, lighting, general contrast, and other visibility aspects are being tinkered with, letting you see your enemies better in the world.”
  • Death Experience; We’re adjusting bleed out and spawn times to make your virtual deaths as good as virtual deaths can be.”

  • Vehicles; Damage states, movement, and weaponry of tanks and other vehicles are being tweaked.”
  • TTK and TTD; We’re adjusting automatic weapons to make the Time to Kill and Time to Death as fair and fun as possible.”
  • Progression and Customization; We’re working on making the user journey one that’s smooth and person.”
  • Chat Profanity Filter on PC; We are evaluating the Open Beta feedback and are making many adjustements for launch.”

Two Months Until Launch

Most of the areas highlighted on the list are not especially surprising. Players should, of course, bear in mind that the very purpose of an open beta is to check for problems so that the developers can tweak accordingly. The gameplay experience will never be quite the same in a beta as when the game actually launches. It is certainly positive that DICE is clearly listening to their fans and adjusting where appropriate. Indeed, the studio recently reaffirmed their commitment to historical authenticity when it comes to character customization options; suggesting that they will dial the options back a bit.
