New Elder Scrolls: Online Eld Angvar Battlegrounds Map Now Available

Yesterday, fans of The Elder Scrolls: Online got the first DLC of 2019; Wrathstone, the first of four DLCs set to release in the Season of the Dragon. However, Wrathstone also launched alongside Update 21, a game update which was free to download for all players. That update included a variety of tweaks, bug-fixes, and some new features, and it also includes a new map for the Elder Scrolls: Online Battlegrounds mode; the mysterious site of Eld Angvar.

Update 21 launched yesterday for PC/Mac versions of The Elder Scrolls: Online, and will come to consoles very soon. The update includes two major new features. One of these is a rework of the existing Guild Trader UI which adds new options and makes searching for items much easier. The second is a new ‘Tamriel Zone Guide’ which can be used to track quest and area completion in each of the game’s regions. In addition, the update adds Eld Angvar as a playable map in the Elder Scrolls: Online Battlegrounds game mode.

Elder Scrolls Online Battlegrounds Map Eld Angvar

Eld Angvar is a strange ruin in the “Ayleid world between worlds,” which appeared during the story of last year’s Murkmire DLC. “With Eld Angvar,” explains Brian Wheeler, the Lead Combat Designer for ESO; “we wanted to disrupt certain behaviours that we’ve traditionally seen with some game types. In past Battlegrounds maps, we’ve always had the bases on the outer peripheries, but in Eld Angvar, we wanted to get away from forcing players to run around the edges.”

As a result of this, players in Eld Angvar will start much closer to the centre of the map. Interestingly, the map is different depending on which game type is active. The Capture the Relic, Chaosball, and Domination types use one version of the map, wile Crazy King and Deathmatch use a different one. According to Wheeler, the variation is meant to help fine-tune the map to work with the different game types. Battlegrounds and Alliance War fans also have new rewards thanks to Update 21, including the Elinhir Arena Lion pet. New Weapon Outfit Styles are available in Battlegrounds for the Pit Demon, Storm Lord, and Firedrakes.
