Giannis Antetokounmpo Joins Madden 21 Superstar KO, The Yard Modes

The Greek Freak has officially made the move from basketball to football- virtually speaking, of course. Giannis Antetokounmpo is now amongst playable athletes available for use in two of Madden 21’s popular game modes. He’s also joined by two fellow NBA players, who he shares a close-knit relationship with.

Madden 21 adds Giannis Antetokounmpo to Superstar KO, The Yard

On Wednesday, EA’s Madden Twitter account teased a “crossover” coming to The Yard on Thursday. That crossover involves two-time NBA MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo, joining two different modes in Madden 21. “The Greek Freak,” as he’s known, is now a playable athlete the Superstar KO mode.

He’s also part of The Yard along with his two brothers, both of whom also play in the NBA right now. Thanasis, who is one of Giannis’ Milwaukee Bucks teammates, and Kostas Antetokounmpo, a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, also are players in the mode.

Gamers will find Giannis and his brothers in the game after installing Madden 21 update 1.13, which just arrived on Thursday morning. It’s a relatively small update in terms of downloading and installation.

Giannis crossover paves the way for more

As far as the modes go, The Yard is the newest addition to the Madden lineup. It’s more of a 6-v-6 backyard style football game with trick plays and quicker scoring. Superstar KO also involves similar scoring battles as opponents aren’t able to use field goals and need to score in four plays or less.

Giannis joining the game is an interesting crossover since Madden Superstar KO has typically featured other celebrities from the world of music. Some have included hip-hop artists Snoop Dogg, DJ Khaled, Lil Yachty, and Migos. Giannis and his two brothers are the first NBA stars to get into the game.

We saw Snoop Dogg appear in both EA’s Madden 20 and NHL 20 titles last year. Snoop has even done commentary in the NHL game and participated in Madden tournaments.

Could the same be on the way for Giannis? With no NBA Live game from EA this year, it’s likely they want to remind sports fans they’ll probably have a new basketball game at some point in the future. It’s also possible that we’ll see other athletes from the world of FIFA soccer or NHL pop up in Madden based on this.
