Here’s How Destiny 2’s New Bounties System Works

As part of today’s massive 1.2.3 update for Destiny 2, the last major update to be added ahead of this September’s Forsaken expansion, Bungie has added in a new Bounties system that’s similar in nature to the Bounties that were offered in the original Destiny. However, Destiny 2’s Bounties system isn’t a mere carbon copy of its predecessor, and this post will explain exactly how the two systems differ.

We’re still waiting on the full patch notes for update 1.2.3, but Bungie was nice enough to offer an advanced preview of the new Bounties system via a recent This Week at Bungie blog post. According to the blog post, Destiny 2 players can pick up bounties from certain NPC vendors, though unlike in the original Destiny, each bounty will require paying the vendor a small amount of Glimmer. Also, bounties will expire after a certain time period, so players will want to wrap them up sooner rather than later. Once a bounty is completed, it can be immediately redeemed right from the player’s inventory, no need to return to the vendor who gave them the bounty.

Bounties are now available in Destiny 2.

Speaking of redeeming bounties, Bungie says that each completed bounty will award experience points and reputation points for the bounty’s associated faction. In some cases, a bounty “will offer even better rewards,” though Bungie didn’t go into specific detail as to what those potential “better rewards” might be. Lastly, Bungie hinted that, after the Forsaken expansion arrives, some bounties can even be acquired as world drops, and the new vendors present in the expansion’s new regions means there will be even more vendor bounties to purchase and complete.

Along with the new Bounties system, today’s 1.2.3 update is also making some pretty big changes to Destiny 2’s PvP component, and later today more dedicated PvE players will be able to try their hand at the newly added Prestige Raid Lairs.
