Here’s How to Catch Pokemon in Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee Without Motion Controls

It has been officially confirmed from Nintendo that motion controls are not actually required for catching a Pokemon in the Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee games while in handheld mode. This is contrary to previous reports that you would have to use some form of motion control, be it physically moving the actual console itself in order to find a Pokemon and catch it.

This report comes from IGN who had the opportunity to view catching a Pokemon without motion controls in action. According to IGN, you can catch the Pokemon in the Let’s Go games by using the left thumbstick to aim and then press the A button to actually throw the Poke Ball when ready.

While this is positive news for players who weren’t excited at the idea of having to use motion controls in order to catch a Pokemon in Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee, this method does come with a few caveats of its own. First and foremost, you, of course, have to be in the handheld mode in order to use this catch method.

There has been no confirmation that you can catch Pokemon like this while the console is docked and on a TV. What’s even weirder is that there is no way to turn off motion controls at all in the Let’s Go games so the footage IGN saw was of the player placing the console flat on a table. This was possibly done in order to not trigger the motion controls while aiming.

Lastly, this control method still doesn’t alleviate the fact that you are using a Pokemon Go-like system to catch the pocket monsters, which is a point of contention for some fans of the series. We will have to wait just a little bit longer to get our own hands on Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee and see for ourselves.
