The Historian: Where to Find this Hidden Treasure in God of War

Among God of War’s many side-quests and collectible sets are a series of treasure maps. These maps offer clues rather than clear directions, and if you can figure them out, they will lead you to some rather valuable loot. “The Historian” treasure map is one such map, which can be found on the edge of the Lake of Nine.

To find The Historian treasure map, you will need to head to the Ruins of the Ancient. This area will not be accessible until later in the game. Once you have lowered the waters of the Lake of Nine, the beach will be exposed. Then, you can find it located north of the Forgotten Caverns, with a Mystic Gateway near the shoreline. The Ruins of the Ancient are in fact home to an optional boss known as the Soul Devourer. This fearsome Ancient is quite a challenge to take down. Fortunately, it is docile until you attack. As a result, you can cross the beach without fear to find The Historian treasure map.

The map’s clue reads: “I wished to make a contribution to Fafnir’s collection of relics. I arrived to find the door locked and Reavers blocking the way I came. I quickly buried my treasure and hid as fast as I could. If I manage to escape, I’ll return to this spot.”

Finding The Historian Hidden Treasure

The treasure map leads you to Fafnir’s Storeroom. This ruined vault features during the Fafnir’s Hoard Favor, given to you by the dwarf vendor Sindri. When you arrive at the doors to the Storeroom, look for a nearby fire. There should also be a pair of wall carvings in the shape of rams, as indicated by the sketch in the clue, close to it. The Historian hidden treasure can be found there. The hidden treasure contains Aegir’s Gold, a Legendary crafting resource called Eternal Frost, and a Legendary enchantment called the Eye of Runic Mastery.
