How to Slide in Madden 19 for PS4 or Xbox One

Being able to maneuver your players in the Madden 19 game is the biggest aspect of controlling a successful offensive strategy. In particular, the quarterback is probably your main source for orchestrating those plays, and sometimes he’ll need to quickly be on the move. There won’t always be a good passing play available as all receivers are in tight coverage. When that happens and you’re in need of a first down, it may make the most sense to scramble and then slide with your quarterback. Here’s how to slide in Madden 19, whether on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

How to slide in Madden 19 – Scramble with the QB first

First off, you’ll need to be controlling your quarterback so that you can make this play. Once the ball has been snapped, if you’ve found no good options for throwing to one of your receivers and the defense is looming, it’s time to scramble.

  • To scramble in Madden 19 on a PlayStation 4, hold the R2.
  • For scrambling in Madden 19 on the Xbox One, hold the RT.

This will help you get away from defenders and find some open space to run the ball. From there, you can consider sliding, if it’s a play where you’re closer to the middle of the field and in danger of getting hit.

How to slide in Madden 19 – Get past the line of scrimmage, slide

Just like in the NFL, the same applies to the Madden video game. It makes little sense to use a quarterback slide when you’re behind the line of scrimmage, as you’ll lose yards. In those instances, you want to throw the ball away before you get sacked for a loss. Just make sure you throw the ball away outside of your five offensive linemen, aka “the pocket,” so you won’t be penalized.

  • To slide in Madden 19 on the PS4, hold R2 and L2, then press the square button (dive).
  • To slide in Madden 19 on the Xbox One, hold RT and LT, then press the X button (dive).

By performing the slide, you’ll see your quarterback slide into the turf and move forward several yards. However, they’ll spot the ball wherever your QB’s butt touches the ground first. Keep this in mind if you’re nearing the first down line. It’s better to just get the first down rather than trying to play hero for more yards!

Learning to use plays like the scramble, throw away, or slide can help you avoid defensive pressure when it’s mounting. You can learn more about how to throw different passes in our Madden 19 passing guide!
