Madden 19 Passing Guide: How To Pump Fake, Scramble, Lob, & More Passing Options

The Madden 19 game gives players the opportunity to really become armchair quarterbacks. When playing the popular football game, the quarterback is under your complete control. Just like in the real-life game, there are all sorts of passing options for consideration. Mastering these can go a long way towards keeping your team close and ultimately winning the game. Here are the Madden 19 passing controls explained including valuable tools like how to pump fake, scramble, and throw different passes.

Madden 19 Passing: How to Pump Fake, Scramble

In plenty of NFL games, quarterbacks such as Drew Brees, Russell Wilson, and others rely on multiple tools to get the right pass. That includes a pump fake to throw the defense off a bit before completing a real pass. To do this in Madden 19, PS4 or Xbox gamers simply need to press the controller’s L stick.

  • To pump-fake a pass: press L stick (on PS4 or Xbox One)

The scramble is another helpful move to avoid the defensive attack. Quarterbacks will use this when the defense is moving in but there aren’t many good passing options at that moment. To scramble in Madden 19, press L Stick + R2 on the PS4. For the Xbox controller, press L Stick + RT.

  • To scramble with a quarterback (PS4): Press L stick & R2
  • To scramble with a quarterback (Xbox One): Press L Stick & RT

Madden 19 Passing: How to throw a Low or High Pass

Learning how to pump fake or scramble are just two of the important passing options out there. There are a number of other options at your fingertips which can help, though. For example, you can throw a number of different types of passes such as a low pass or high pass in your Madden NFL games.

  • To throw a Low pass (PS4): Receiver Icon & Hold down L2
  • To throw a Low pass (Xbox One): Receiver Icon & Hold down LT
  • For a High pass (PS4): Receiver Icon & Hold down L1
  • For a High pass (Xbox One): Receiver Icon & Hold LB

Madden 19 Passing: Bullet Pass, Lob Pass, Touch, or Throw Away

A bullet pass is a quick, accurate strike to a certain receiver, possibly one just across the first down line or in the end zone. To throw a bullet pass simply involves holding the Receiver Icon on PS4 or Xbox One controllers.

A lob pass could be a more “up for grabs” type throw. This deep throw could be a hail mary play towards the end zone as the clock is winding down. These also come in handy if you have a speedy receiver and want to get the ball right over a cornerback on a deep route. To perform a lob pass in Madden 19, tap the Receiver Icon on either PS4 or Xbox One.

A touch pass could also come in handy during the game. For a touch pass in Madden 19, simply double tap the Receiver Icon on the PS4 or Xbox One controller.

  • To throw a Bullet pass (PS4/Xbox One): Hold Receiver Icon
  • For a Lob pass (PS4/Xbox One): Tap Receiver Icon
  • To throw a Touch pass (PS4/Xbox One): Double Tap Receiver Icon
  • To throw away the ball (PS4/Xbox One): Press the R-Stick.

In many instances, the best option could be to simply throw away the ball with no passes available on the field. To do this on either the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, just press the R Stick, before you are sacked of course!

Passing controls can take some getting used to, but with practice, they’ll be second nature. They’re a major part of being able to take down your competition. Once you’ve mastered the Madden 19 passing options, you’ll be on top of your game for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One!
