How Battlefield 5 War Stories Prepares Players for Multiplayer

Gamers may generally think of Battlefield titles as multiplayer games, but while other similar franchises have abandoned single-player altogether, DICE is putting a huge amount of effort into the Battlefield 5 War Stories. The game’s single-player campaign will feature four self-contained stories set across WWII. According to the developers, the War Stories are designed to help players become familiar with gameplay mechanics, weapons, and abilities; preparing them for the game’s multiplayer.

How Battlefield 5 War Stories Helps Prepare You for Multiplayer

Of course, the majority of Battlefield 5’s upcoming game modes are multiplayer modes. The game will even be the first Battlefield title to feature a battle royale mode, called Firestorm, which will come to the game post launch. However, War Stories is hardly a lower priority just because it’s a single-player experience. In fact, the mode allows DICE to do several things which support the game’s multiplayer. By designing each War Story to feature different weapons, items, abilities, and even settings; the developers can help players learn what styles of play they prefer.

The Battlefield 5 War Stories Feature a Variety of Weapons and Classes

“DICE found that the range of tones, styles, and voices explored were also an opportunity to nudge players to probe the different Classes in Battlefield V,” says the studio’s latest blog post“using fictional situations that focus on what each class is good at. For example, Nordlys encourages an approach that favors the Recon Class. Playing Tirailleur with a Support Class state-of-mind might help against the battalion of enemies you’ll encounter.”

Daniel Berlin, the Design Director for Battlefield 5, describes War Stories as a vital part of the Battlefield package; “One thing that the single-player does extremely well that is super important for the product,” he explains; “is that the single player is the driver for the style and the tone of the game – and I think people who played the Battlefield 1 prologue would agree with me in that statement.”
