MLB The Show 21 Soundtrack: Next-Gen Highlight Video Arrives Set to Royal Blood Song

The MLB The Show 21 soundtrack packs plenty of music to keep fans enjoying every pitch, hit, and fielding play in the game. There are currently over 20 songs in the game’s playlist, including tunes by AC/DC, Onyx, Gorillaz, Juvenile, and Foo Fighters. With a new song recently added to that list, The Show released a highlight reel music video clip for the Royal Blood song featuring next-generation in-game footage mixed with the artist.

Royal Blood’s Oblivion on MLB The Show 21 Soundtrack

On Wednesday, May 26, @MLBTheShow Twitter shared a promotional clip for their game, MLB The Show 21, which also features the “new track” Oblivion from UK artist Royal Blood. The English rock duo formed in 2011 and released their third album this past April. Typhoons features 11 tracks on the standard album including Oblivion, now featured on MLB The Show 21 soundtrack.

In the video below, various in-game footage shows the Phillies’ Bryce Harper getting ready to bat, Yankee’s Aaron Judge in the field, and Angels’ Shohei Ohtani hurling a pitch. The video, which checks in at under a minute, also features legends such as Rollie Fingers and Fernando Valenzuela. Of course, the reel would not be complete without a closing toss of the bat from MLB The Show 21 cover star Fernando Tatis

Other songs on the MLB The Show 21 soundtrack include Shot in the Dark by AC/DC, Slam by Onyx, Making a Fighter by Foo Fighters, and Ha by Juvenile. Royal Blood’s Oblivion made its way onto the soundtrack as of April 30 in an update on The Show.

The UK rock duo released Typhoons, the album including Oblivion as of that same date. It’s charted as high as No. 3 on the US Top Rock Albums Billboard chart, and No. 1 on the OCC’s UK Albums chart.

First edition of game on next-gen, Xbox

The game footage in the clip above was “Captured on Next Gen hardware,” according to the text in the video. MLB The Show 21 is the first game released for Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X/S consoles. This is also the first year The Show is available on the Xbox platform.

Along with the Oblivion music video clip, The Show also put out another promotional clip, referring to Game Informer’s review. In that review, Game Informer called The Show 21 “…one of the best in all of video game sports.”

That puts it up against titles including EA’s Madden 21, FIFA 21, and NHL 21, as well as 2K’s NBA 2K21. Competing baseball titles currently including R.B.I. Baseball 21, but EA appears to have plans for a baseball title in the future. They announced their purchase of Metalhead Software several weeks ago.

Metalhead has been developing the Super Mega Baseball title, which doesn’t feature real MLB stars, but more cartoon-style arcade-type characters. Gamers have found ways to develop rosters with their own representations of MLB players, though.

For now, it appears MLB The Show 21 is holding up fine in its first release on next-generation consoles. To date, the game holds scores of 78 out of 100 on PS5, and 81 out of 100 on Xbox Series X/S, per Metacritic’s aggregate review ratings.
