MLB The Show 22 Cover Athlete & Release Date Predictions

Fans are anticipating MLB The Show 22, the latest installment in the popular series of baseball simulation games. San Diego Studio released The Show 21 months ago, and MLB’s World Series determined champions. In addition, several players had sensational seasons, some of whom captured MVP Awards, or were high up in the voting. In this report, we offer some predictions for MLB The Show 22 cover athlete. Also, when will the MLB The Show 22 game get released?

Who will be MLB The Show 22 cover athlete?

The current MLB The Show game features Fernando Tatis Jr. as its cover star, and he didn’t suffer any sort of cover athlete curse. Tatis hit 42 homers, had 97 RBI, 25 stolen bases, and a .282 batting average in 130 games. That’s the most he played in his three seasons in the big leagues. The Show’s current cover star also ended up finishing third in the National League MVP Award voting.

Finishing ahead of Tatis Jr. was the Washington Nationals’ Juan Soto, and Philadelphia Phillies’ Bryce Harper. Harper, the MLB The Show 19 cover star, picked up his second MVP Award.

In the American League, Shohei Ohtani was the top vote-getter for MVP. The pitching and hitting sensation had an epic season with the Los Angeles Angels. That included 46 homers and a .257 batting average, but also him throwing 146 strikeouts and recording a 3.18 ERA. He was amongst All-Star starters this past year and competed in the Home Run Derby.

Based on MLB The Show 22 cover odds, Ohtani seems to be the early frontrunner to land the cover after his MVP season. However, Mike Trout is right up there, and surprisingly the fellow Angels star and multiple-time MVP has yet to get a cover.

In terms of the odds, Atlanta Braves stars Ronald Acuna and Freddie Freeman aren’t far behind. Neither is Vladimir Guerrero Jr., clearly a major star in the making. Vlad Jr. finished second in the AL MVP voting.

We could see Ohtani getting the cover after such a huge season. He’d make for the first pitcher on the front of the game too. Previous cover stars have included Javier Baez, Aaron Judge, Harper, Ken Griffey Jr., and David Ortiz.

When is the baseball video game’s release date?

We’ve now looked at some predictions for the cover star, but when will MLB The Show 22’s release date be? The game typically arrives in the first four months of a new calendar year. The MLB The Show 21 game dropped on April 20, 2021. As fans know, it was the first time the game became available to play on Xbox consoles in addition to PlayStation.

As far as a release timeframe for The Show 22, we have to consider the game’s previous release dates. However, there’s also the potential for a delay due to the MLB lockout situation.

The best guess is that the game is in development and still being planned for a similar release time.

We should mention that The Show 21’s April release made it only the second time the game came out in April. All previous editions generally arrived in March, with MLB 06: The Show coming out in late February of 2006.

MLB The Show 20 was released March 17th, 2020 while MLB The Show 21 debuted on March 26, 2019. The Show 18 came out on March 27, 2018, and The Show 17 arrived on March 27, 2017.

Our best guess would be MLB The Show 22 arrives on April 12, 19, or 26th of 2022. However, keep the lockout in mind as a possible delay could happen. We certainly hope baseball gets on track and the game we love is back for another exciting installment, though.
