NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Details Revealed for PS5 DualSense Controller Effects

The NBA 2K21 next-gen editions will feature improved gameplay, graphics, and movement on the court. In the pre-release hype, it’s said to give an upgraded basketball experience. On Wednesday, a second NBA 2K21 Courtside Report arrived featuring details about how movement is improved in the next-gen versions. In particular, the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller will provide some unique effects.

NBA 2K21 next-gen features for PS5 DualSense controller’s Adaptive triggers

The current-generation Sony PlayStation 4 features a DualShock controller. In various games, it provides a rumbling or pulsating sensation to simulate stressful moments. Those include trying to kick a tough field goal in Madden or shooting free throws in NBA 2K.

However, with the new Sony PlayStation 5 console comes a new DualSense controller. It includes adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. These will unleash some new controller sensations that gamers will experience when playing the NBA 2K21 next-gen version.

In the new Courtside Report, NBA 2K Gameplay Director Mike Wang conveyed his excitement for how the developers decided to incorporate these into the next-gen experience. He noted that the PS5’s adaptive triggers will present better effects for the fatigue a player is experiencing.

“As you move around the court, you’ll feel more and more resistance on the Sprint trigger as your player’s energy drains. We also use adaptive resistance in the post game. Strong post players will feel very little resistance on L2 when backing down weaker opponents, but you’ll have to use more force to pull L2 when it’s the other way around,” Mike Wang indicated.

Haptic feedback accentuates collision effects

With NBA 2K21 next-gen features for PS5’s haptic feedback, that will enhance the feeling of various in-game collisions or bumps. That can include things like boxing out, off-ball collisions, or other situations where players come into contact with each other.

As Mike Wang describes, it’s “basically any situation where players make significant contact will vibrate the controller at various intensities depending on the strength of the players involved and the severity of the impact.”

Wang said gamers will notice the difference “between a grazing bump and hard hit” when using the PS5 DualSense controller.

“It’s also a great reinforcement tool to understand when you’re making players work too hard on the court, which could hit their energy/stamina levels and potentially cause wear-and-tear on their bodies with our in-depth injury system,” Wang said of the PS5 controller’s effects.

The NBA 2K21 next-gen edition features Zion Williamson on the cover. It arrives on November 10 for Xbox Series X/S and November 12 for the PlayStation 5.

The Next-Gen Edition costs $69.99 on its own. However, gamers who purchased Mamba Forever Edition will have it free of charge. That is if they upgrade from PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X/S.
