Rumor: The PS5 Clock Speeds May Be More Than Twice Those of the PS4

Even though we continue to learn about the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Scarlett, we have more questions than answers concerning the next-gen consoles and their capabilities. But now, thanks to a reputable hardware leaker on Twitter, we may have an idea what to expect from PS5 clock speeds. And if the numbers we are seeing are correct, we are blown away.

Here Are the PS5 Clock Speed Leaked Specs

@KOMACHI_ENSAKA on Twitter posted the following tweet:

The text reads:

“Oberon A0. Gen2 : GFXCLK = 2.000GHz Gen1 : GFXCLK = 0.911Ghz Gen0 : GFXCLK = 0.800Ghz.“

So that you understand what you’re looking at here, the Gen2 and Gen1 clock speeds are a match for the PS4 and PS4 Pro clock speeds. While no one is positive whether the third speed pertains to the PS5, it is believed that it could. If so, it means that the PS5 may have more than twice the clock speed of current generation PlayStations.

You might recollect that during E3, a lot of people were talking about the hardware capabilities of the PlayStation 5, with rumors flying around that PS5 would be more powerful than Xbox Scarlett. If this Oberon leak is correct, it would certainly lend some credence to those rumors.

It also would be in line with Michael Pachter’s wild prediction that the PS5 would cost $800. He did recant that declaration not long after, providing a more sedate price estimate of $400 for both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Scarlett. Indeed, it is hard to imagine that $800 would be an acceptable price point for a next gen console from a consumer standpoint. But on the other hand, it is also hard to imagine how something as powerful as the PS5 is purported to be could cost just $400. So how will all this play out? We’ll just have to wait and see. Hopefully the real price of the PS5 will be closer to $400, but it’ll be amazing if it is.
