Sekiro Mod Allows Players to Dress Up As 25 Alternate Characters

Unlike previous From Software games, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice features a pre-set protagonist (The Wolf) who cannot be cosmetically customized. However, thanks to the efforts of one modder, PC players no longer need to settle for the game’s core protagonist. If you’d rather play the game as Lady Emma, Genichiro Ashina, or even a feral monkey, you now can.

Sekiro Alternate Skins Mod

Sekiro alternate skins mod

The mod, which was made by dedicated Dark Souls modder ZullieTheWitch, is basically an in-depth texture swap. The visual files for Sekiro’s default protagonist are replaced with files that change his appearance into that of an NPC. There are 25 alternate skins in total, and while ZullieTheWitch didn’t release a comprehensive list, we spotted the following options:

  • Lady Emma
  • Genichiro Ashina (default and ‘Way of Tomoe’ appearances)
  • Blue-Robed Samurai Enemy
  • O’Rin of the Water
  • Poison Lizard
  • Feral Monkey
  • Tengu Mask Rooftop Ninja
  • Basket Head Warrior

As with other Sekiro mods, ZullieTheWitch’s alternate skins mod requires the Sekiro Mod Engine. Once the engine is installed, you can download the mod here.

Given their similar humanoid builds, some of the alternates ZullieTheWitch chose (Lady Emmy, Blue-Robed Samurai, etc.) make sense. However, making playable humanoid alternates out of the Feral Monkey and Poison Lizard was clearly an unintended bonus. Unsurprisingly, fans have already started requesting additional skins for characters like Lady Butterfly and Sword Saint Isshin.

There have also been requests for characters like Hanbei the Undying and The Owl, but they might be slightly trickier. Since their body proportions are noticeably different from The Wolf’s, making them into playable skins can be tricky. Then again, if the diminutive Poison Lizard can be turned into a skin, I suppose nothing’s entirely off the table.

If you’re looking for a mod that makes Sekiro easier, we’ve got you covered there as well. We also recently looked at an impressive Sekiro no-hit boss speedrun.
