Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Includes a Central Hub Location

We already know From Software’s upcoming game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will differ a bit from the studio’s usual fare. For one thing, Sekiro won’t have multiplayer of any kind, though From promises that has its benefits. However, one way in which Sekiro *won’t* deviate from the norm is in its use of a central hub area.

Sekiro Dilapidated Temple Hub Location

According to this Game Informer preview (courtesy of GameSpot), Sekiro’s hub area is called the Dilapidated Temple. Much like in Bloodborne and the Dark Souls series, the Dilapidated Temple offers respite from Sekiro’s many dangers. Over time, the temple is also populated by the various NPC’s and merchants the player crosses paths with.

Again, as in Bloodborne and the Souls series, the player can teleport back to the Dilapidated Temple whenever they want. However, they can only do so from a sculptor’s idol (Sekiro’s version of bonfires) or by using a specific item. The Game Informer preview also details a few of the NPC’s whom players will find at the Dilapidated Temple:

  • The Sculptor – An enigmatic NPC who offers character progression services.
  • Emma – A young woman who converts any Gourd Seeds the player finds into additional Healing Gourd charges.
  • The Immortal Soldier – An NPC who teaches the player new combat techniques and acts as a sparring partner.

According to From Software marketing and communications manager Yasuhiro Kitao, the Dilapidated Temple should feel instantly familiar to souls-like fans:

“If you’re familiar with the Souls games, you know how you can find NPC’s in the world. Maybe they’re vendors, maybe they do something with you, maybe they head back to the hub, where you can speak to them and progress their quests.”

In typical souls-like fashion, Sekiro players will discover a number of shortcuts and paths leading back to the Dilapidated Temple. This will help in making the temple feel like a safe haven that slowly grows and evolves alongside the player.

In other From Software news, the studio has two additional games in development alongside Sekiro. As of this writing, neither of those games have been officially unveiled.
