The Shadow and The Blade DLC Gives Skaven Poisoned Wind Mortars

The Shadow and The Blade DLC is the next expansion coming to Total War: Warhammer 2, and in fact, it will be releasing in just a couple of days’ time. When it does launch, the DLC will be adding a set of new units to both the Dark Elves and Skaven, alongside the two new Legendary Lords; Malus Darkblade and Deathmaster Snikch. While the Dark Elves are getting the Bloodwrack Medusa among their new additions, the Skaven will get the new Poisoned Wind Mortar.

The Shadow and The Blade DLC New Units: Poisoned Wind Mortars

The Poisoned Wind Mortar will be one of two new weapon teams coming to the Skaven in The Shadow and The Blade DLC, alongside the new Warp-Grinder teams. In the case of the Mortar, however, this new unit will provide the Skaven with an all-new way to bombard enemies at long-range. Until now, the only Skaven war machines have been the Plagueclaw Catapult and the Warp-Lightning Cannon; both large and slow-moving machines which only come in very small groups.

Poisoned Wind Mortars, on the other hand, actually come in a larger group of nine. Plus, without bulky war machines to push around, they’re faster than most long-range options. They also have an extremely good range of 250 with their mortars, which deal very significant Magical, armour-piercing, explosive damage. Certainly, these new mortars are likely to become a popular alternative to Plague-Claw Catapults thanks to their mobility and relative cost efficiency.

Additionally, the new DLC includes The Avalanche Mortars, a Regiment of Renown version of the Poisoned Wind Mortars. Armed with purple globes instead of the standard green, just like the Globadier Regiment of Renown, these mortars deal far greater damage. (Almost six times as much, with almost 200 explosive damage alone!) The Avalanche Mortars have the Anti-Infantry trait as a result; their explosive globes can quickly decimate even well-armoured infantry units.
