The DualShock 5 Will Feature a Microphone

We have been finding out a lot about the PS5 controller, even as we wait for a PS5 reveal. Now, we have found out about one of the controller’s new features. The DualShock 5 will feature a microphone which will be built right into the unit.

Gamers Aren’t Sure How to React to News That the DualShock 5 Will Feature a Microphone

The microphone feature was revealed in this patent. It appears that the main reason for the inclusion of the microphone is to increase accessibility (a good thing, obviously). Whether or not it will have other functions is as of yet not clear. Like, can you use it to talk to fellow gamers while playing co-op or multiplayer titles? We don’t know yet.

Gamers are glad to see improvements in terms of access. But not everyone is thrilled with the idea of a built-in microphone in the DualShock 5. What if it cannot be shut off? What if it compromises privacy?

Hopefully, Sony has thought about these things. We’re not sure why they wouldn’t, since public concern about privacy issues online has only continued to increase over the past few years. Maybe there will be an easy way to switch the microphone feature off and keep it off, and perhaps a visual indicator to let one know when it is on.

Also, there is other news to report regarding the PS5 controller. Recently, the PlayStation France website briefly said that the PS5 controller will be compatible with PS4, not just PS5. Also, there are leaked photos which might give us a glimpse of what the DualShock 5 looks like. As we hear more about the PS5 controller and the PS5 itself, we will give you updates in our PlayStation news section.
