Ubisoft Teases Far Cry Announcement Coming Tomorrow

In a surprise reveal, Ubisoft has released a new teaser trailer for a new Far Cry announcement which is due to be made during the Game Awards tomorrow. The 44-second trailer appears to tease a setting which takes place after the events of Far Cry 5, and have prompted speculation that it could be Far Cry 6.

Ubisoft’s Far Cry Announcement and Teaser Trailer

The Game Awards 2018 Teaser trailer was released on YouTube earlier today. The brief trailer gives no clear looks at gameplay and only includes vague hints as to the story and setting. However, whatever the new project may be; it certainly appears to take place in Hope County after the events of Far Cry 5’s devastating ending. Spoilers for the ending of Far Cry 5 follow, but the teaser trailer makes that clear anyhow!

If you don’t accept the Father’s offer of backing down at the end of Far Cry 5, everything erupts into chaos by a sudden nuclear blast. The player character flees to a nearby bunker. However, in the confusion, the Father captures them, and the game ends with the pair of them in the bunker as the world above burns in the nuclear devastation. Needless to say, a lot of fans were taken aback by this ending! The new teaser appears to hint at a potential postapocalyptic setting, with players returning to Hope County after the nuclear bombs fell. It also gives fans a look at what appears to be a homemade crossbow which fires circular saw blades…

Far Cry Announcement Could be Far Cry 6

It’s unclear exactly what the teaser is for. It’s possible that this could be Far Cry 6. However, it seems too soon after the release of Far Cry 5 to be announcing the next core series title. It could certainly be a major new DLC for Far Cry 5. Alternately, given the track record of the Far Cry series; it could also be some sort of standalone title similar to Blood Dragon or Far Cry Primal. This setting was actually (and perhaps accidentally) teased months ago by Greg Bryk, the voice of The Father in Far Cry 5. Fans will have to tune into the Game Awards tomorrow to see for themselves!
