Destiny 2: Shadowkeep Will be ‘Rise of Iron Plus’-Sized Expansion

Last year, Bungie released the biggest expansion for Destiny 2 so far, Forsaken. It contained so many new features and content. On top of that, it came with brand-new PvP and PvE hybrid activity called Gambit. Forsaken, in Destiny community’s eyes, was The Taken King-sized expansion (The Taken King was the biggest expansion in Destiny 1).

On June 4, 2019, Bungie announced what they have been planning for the future of Destiny 2. In the reveal live stream, they answered some questions about Trials of the Nine (which, it seems, is not on Bungie’s list for at least Shadowkeep), Destiny 3 and many other fan-favorite questions asked by the YouTuber Datto.

Another great announcement in the stream was Cross Play. After years of player asking for this feature, Bungie finally can add it into Destiny 2. It’s a huge deal for Destiny 2 since this game is all about progress and acquiring rare weapons and armor sets.

Destiny 2 Rise of Iron Shadowkeep

Shadowkeep is the next big thing for Destiny 2. It will hit consoles and PC on September 17. Destiny 2 will also be released on Google’s new streaming service for video games called Staida later in November.

Showkeep – Rise of Iron Plus-sized Expansion

Polygon asked Luke Smith (Game Director) and Mark Noseworthy (General Manager) some questions about how big Shadowkeep will be in Destiny 2.

“Forsaken was a huge expansion pack for Destiny 2,” said Noseworthy. “In terms of what we’re able to build this year, it’s more much in scope with a Rise of Iron or Rise of Iron Plus.”

Shadowkeep will not bring so much content like Forsaken/The Taken King, but it will be bigger than Rise of Iron. Rise of Iron was the final expansion for Destiny 1 released in 2016. It revolved around the story of Iron Lords and SIVA (a plague risen again on Earth).

Bungie also talked about their plans on the future of Destiny 2 post-Shadowkeep. Noseworthy also said, “[we] can’t really just grow the game infinitely, forever.” This kind of confirms that there will be Destiny 3 in the future.
