Fallout 76 Beta: Everything You Need to Know About Perk Cards

The Fallout 76 Beta is due to launch tomorrow for players who have pre-ordered the game on Xbox One. The Beta will start one week later for PC and PS4. While multiplayer is of course the biggest new feature, the Beta will also be many players’ first opportunity to try out the new Fallout 76 Perk Cards; one of the most significant changes to the series.

Fallout 76 Perk Cards

While the iconic S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system for attributes is still a big part of Fallout 76, the way that system works has been heavily revised. Instead of assigning scores to these attributes, as players did at the start of Fallout 4, players in Fallout 76 will be able to improve their attribute scores as they play. This means that the previous caps which existed on maximum attribute scores no longer apply. The more major change, however, is in the way that perks work. Instead of acquiring perks as you level up, you will instead gain Perk Cards.

The Fallout 76 Perk Cards Can be Assigned to Each Attribute

Every few levels, you will gain a new Perk Card pack when you level up. The pack will contain a random selection of Perk Cards, each of which has an assigned ability and associated attribute. You can equip a number of Perk Cards to each of your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attributes equal to the score you have in each attribute; if your Strength is 4, you can equip 4 Strength Perk Cards. Thanks to this new system, there are a lot more Perk Cards than there were perks in previous games. As a result, players should be able to specialise much more easily – not to mention that you’ll be able to change your equipped Perk Cards freely at any point.

Quite a few Perk Cards have already been revealed in trailers or gameplay footage. For complete lists of all the Perk Cards already confirmed, see below:
