Ubisoft Launches Far Cry 5: Dead Living Zombies DLC with Bloody Launch Trailer

Ubisoft has now released the last of its three announced DLC expansions for Far Cry 5; Dead Living Zombies. Today marks the actual scheduled release date for the DLC; an unexplained error caused the expansion to become briefly available to download on Xbox One two weeks ago. The release also brings the Far Cry 5 Season Pass to an end.

Dead Living Zombies: The Last Announced DLC for Far Cry 5

As usual for a DLC release, Ubisoft released a brief launch trailer for Dead Living Zombies. It gives fans a glimpse of gameplay and also lays out the story. This third expansion is notably different in both style and structure to those previous; both Hours of Darkness and Lost on Mars.

In Dead Living Zombies, gamers will play through a series of different scenarios against hordes of undead. Canonically, each of the scenarios are stories dreamed up by Guy Marvel, the B-movie director who appeared in Far Cry 5 directing a Blood Dragon film. The two previous expansions for Far Cry 5 both took place in self-contained open worlds, one set in Vietnam and the other on Mars. Dead Living Zombies has no such open world, however. Each of the scenarios is a separate mission with its own area. While some of the maps take place in Hope County, some are distinctly different from anything seen before in Far Cry 5.

Each of the seven scenarios is playable solo, and can be replayed in solo, co-op, and an alternate mode where players earn points as they progress; more points causes them to be outfitted with new perks and weapons. As a result, Dead Living Zombies may prove to have more replayability than either of the previous expansions. However, the DLC is not especially long. Players are likely to complete each scenario at least once within a couple of hours.

What’s Next for Far Cry 5?

Dead Living Zombies is the final of three expansions which comprise the Far Cry 5 Season Pass, along with the release of the Far Cry 3 Classic Edition. With it now released, Ubisoft has no announced plans for Far Cry 5. However, it seems likely that the studio may yet have something in the works. The voice actor who portrayed Joseph Seed recently posted a cryptic teaser online which seemed to indicate his character’s return. It’s unknown what it was referring to; whether it was for a second season of DLC for Far Cry 5, or an upcoming standalone Far Cry game. For now, fans will have to wait and see. Ubisoft added a New Game Plus mode to Far Cry 5 just a few days ago, perhaps giving fans incentive to return to the main game after playing Dead Living Zombies.
