  1. If you’re on the internet, you’ve definitely heard about VR (Virtual Reality). Look, the concept isn’t exactly new — but we’re really only starting to find real-world uses for it now . So what is VR? Virtual reality is an artificial environment, created by software and presented to people in such a way that the person engaging with the simulation suspends belief and starts to accept the VR world as a real environment, even though they technically know that it’s not. VR has really only been around for a short period of time, and we’re already seeing hundreds of different ways that technology can be harnessed and put to good use. So, why is it that everyone will know about VR in 5 years? It’s already a revolutionary tool that can change the face of how we engage as a society. How VR is Making Itself Known in Broader Society Up until recently, our experience of the internet has basically been limited to the two-dimensional realm. Sure, we can move our phones around while we watch things on our screens, but that’s about the closest we’ve come to a real tactile-internet experience. Virtual reality is about to change that. While the concept for VR has been around for a long time, it’s only been in the last couple of years that VR has actually hit the mainstream. Ordinary people can buy the Oculus Rift or Samsung Gear VR headsets, and experience VR on a level that was unheard of only 5 years ago. So, if the VR world has changed so much in the last 5 years, where will it be in the next few years? With more than 5.13 billion smartphone users, and 3.2 billion internet users, we are already living in a digital society. Still, for most of us, our access to online resources is limited to what we see in front of us. VR is going to change that. Virtual reality will change the way we shop, surf, and experience the internet. VR is going to come to affect how we engage in daily life — everything from school assignments to military training to art and even to social media There are also use cases for virtual reality in social media. For example, Stan World is a social media platform built on AI, VR and Blockchain tech. It allows users to engage with celebrities and influencers in VR, even attend concerts of their favorite musicians with their friends. It’s a community-lead ecosystem and works to compensate creators and users for their engagement in the community. Stan World is showing us what the social media of the future will be like, and it’s far more immersive and intuitive than the social media we know today. So, why is it that everyone will know about VR in 5 years? They won’t really have much of a choice! VR is going to transform how we engage in basically every aspect of our lives, in many ways making things easier. VR is the future, and now’s not the time to get stuck in the past. VR: The Future It’s abundantly clear that VR is going to permeate and shape our society over the next few years. VR can help us in so many ways, from social media platforms like Stan World, to VR gaming platforms, and military training. We know that the reason why everyone will know about VR in 5 years is because they’ll most likely be engaging with the tech themselves! It’s becoming more and more accessible, and as it does, more use cases are popping up. It serves as a product of entertainment, competition, sports and also a career opportunity. We have individuals and teams that play in different categories and compete at different levels. The significance of this industry has brought us to the point where we would like to take a look at the most money won in a single eSports tournament. Just like you have it in other mainstream sports like football and basketball, eSports has become very organized and is quickly catching up with the kind of organization in those sports. Now, in eSports you have seasonal tournaments like the Fortnite World Cup, LoL World Championship and The International. These tournaments are played by teams who compete against themselves, and the wins for now, apart from the trophies, come with prize money. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRXAaebSCOc Most of the time, when we want to classify teams in eSports, we use such criteria as their performance in competitions. An even easier way to gauge performance is in prize money won. However, recently there has been some interesting developments. This has a lot to do with how the industry is growing. As mentioned above, the source of the prize money won in The International 2019 is primarily from crowdfunding from members of the community. Even while the competition had begun, crowdfunding continued and surpassed the previous tournament prize money of $25,532,177 of The International 2018. Who Was Responsible For The Most Money Won In A Single eSports Tournament? As already mentioned above, the record prize money is an accumulation of the different prizes won by the participating teams. Altogether, 18 teams played in The International 2019. Conclusion The post above does not only reflect how much the eSports and online gaming industry has grown. It also shows a continuing trend that gives us an idea of the games that are in true leadership in the industry. Take for instance, in the same year 2019, the Fortnite World Cup Finals 2019 recorded a total prize money of $15,287,500. However, this is a solo competition, and remains in leadership in the solo category. For team tournaments, Dota 2 has shown to be in lead. Several other games and categories exist, all of which are contributing to the visible growth that is happening in eSports. For now, The International 2019 provides us with the most money won in a single eSports tournament. https://medium.com/@bluebaikalproject/the-most-money-won-in-a-single-esports-tournament-c7aa1d639df0
