What should we make of StellarBlade seeling better than any other PS to PC port?

Recommended Posts

It's somewhat confusing, because I want to believe that the audience isn't as sexist/misogynistic as it used to be, so I am looking for alternate reasons why PC gamers are clamoring for this title more than any other popular PS games ported months or longer after the console launch.  I mean the game is a high quality playing game, so there's that.  Anybody have thoughts?

That's impressive! StellarBlade's strong sales on PC suggest it has broad appeal and solid gameplay that resonates with players. It also highlights the growing demand for quality ports, showing developers should focus on optimizing experiences for PC gamers to maximize success.

True, but there are some other factors to consider.  The Spiderman PC port was good, the Horizon Zero Dawn PC port was good, the The God of War Ragnarok PC port was good, the Days Gone PC port was good, The Returnal PC port was good,  that Ratchet and Clank PC port was good for people that ran the game on an M2 SSD.

The point is that most of the multimillion selling games ported to PC coming from Playstation have been good, but this one title that performed worse on Playstation outsold the others on PC?

I tend to think Playstation will stop porting their games to PC eventually just because excluding an outlier like StellarBlade,  relatively speaking, the PC ports sales have been mostly lackluster and probably are in the red.  Since porting games to PC the console sequels are also generally performing worse than their predecessors despite being more refined, better in every measurable way and available or eventually available on more platforms:

Spiderman 1 sold 40M+ copies on console

Spiderman 2 sold 10M+ copies on console

Horizon Zero Dawn 23M+ copies on console

Horizon Forbidden West 7M+ copies on console

Add to the PC problems that 30% off the top goes to Steam and piracy is rampant:

Unless Sony wants to become the critically reviled T&A champs of PC gaming which would likely be far less lucrative than their exclusive Playstation business taking a few steps back to see if that corrects the problem has to be their next steps.  I doubt that viewing Stellar Blade as anything other than an outlier would be beneficial for them.
