Morrowind Free on PC Today to Celebrate Elder Scrolls’ 25th Anniversary

Update 25/03/19: If you missed this giveaway, don’t worry, as Bethesda has now announced an extension lasting through the weekend.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls; one of the most successful fantasy RPG series in gaming history. The series began 25 years ago with the release of The Elder Scrolls: Arena, and has since included hugely successful games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. To celebrate the occasion, Bethesda is making The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind free to download on PC for one day only.

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is Available for Free to Celebrate the Elder Scrolls 25th Anniversary

To mark the Elder Scrolls 25th anniversary, Bethesda is giving gamers a chance to get the Game of the Year edition of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind for free. This includes the base game, along with both the Bloodmoon and Tribunal expansions. If you don’t already own Morrowind on PC, on Bethesda.net, then you can get it for free very simply. All you need to do is sign in to your Bethesda.net account. There, enter the following code: TES25TH-MORROWIND. That code will allow you to claim your free, digital copy of Morrowind.

Morrowind was the game which came to define the format of the Elder Scrolls franchise when it released back in 2002. Many of the gameplay aspects and mechanics which appear in Morrowind can be seen in some form in both Oblivion and Skyrim, albeit reworked, polished, and streamlined. It was also the game where much of the now huge Elder Scrolls modding community began, thanks to Bethesda making the game creation kit available for free. The Game of the Year edition, which is the version currently available for free, was released in October of 2003. In addition to the Bloodmoon and Tribunal expansions, it includes a variety of patches and extra content.

Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind Available for Free for One Day

The Elder Scrolls series is set to continue relatively soon with the launch of The Elder Scrolls: Blades; the first Elder Scrolls title available on mobile devices. The game currently has no release date. However, Bethesda will be launching a closed beta in the near future, ahead of Early Access. The Elder Scrolls 6 is currently in development, but a release date is unknown. The game will be releasing after Starfield, which is Bethesda’s next upcoming game.
