NPCs are Finally Coming to Fallout 76 in the Upcoming Wastelanders DLC

Last night, Bethesda held their E3 2019 presentation. Although neither Starfield nor Elder Scrolls 6 made an appearance, the company did unveil several new trailers, along with news like Elder Scrolls: Blades coming to the Switch later this year. For their latest Fallout title, Bethesda unveiled a trailer for the upcoming Fallout 76 Wastelanders DLC, revealing something which likely caught many fans by surprise; the addition of actual NPCs to the game.

The Fallout 76 Wastelanders DLC and Upcoming NPCs

One aspect of Fallout 76 which drew criticism, or at least scepticism, when it became known prior to release was that the game would feature no NPCs. Instead, every character in the game (with the exception of some robots), is a real human player. Now, it seems, Bethesda has changed their mind regarding Fallout 76 NPCs. The new trailer showed a variety of different human NPCs, in addition to an actual choice-based dialogue system reminiscent of that from previous Fallout titles.

The Fallout 76 Wastelanders DLC is the third DLC phase for the game, following Wild Appalachia and Nuclear Winter. The first of these recently came to an end, while Nuclear Winter is expected to begin within the next couple of months. Wastelanders will be the final DLC phase of 2019. Of course, as with all Fallout 76 DLC, Wastelanders will be free for all players. Bethesda has been funding their DLC development through the sale of microtransactions, meaning that all of the game’s DLC is totally free.

Fallout 76 Wastelanders DLC Trailer Released 2

Not only will their be NPCs coming in Wastelanders, but the trailer promises a new main quest, as well as “Choice and consequences.” No doubt these will both be related to the arrival of NPCs; perhaps players will have the chance to take sides between several NPC factions. Whatever the case, fans will likely have to wait until later in 2019 for more glimpses of Wastelanders gameplay. After all, Nuclear Winter is due to come first, and Bethesda has yet to reveal exactly what that DLC release will include.
