The Borderlands 3 Director’s Cut DLC Launches Next Week

One week from tomorrow, Gearbox will finally launch the upcoming Borderlands 3 Director’s Cut DLC; the second half of the game’s second Season Pass. Expected to be larger than the Designer’s Cut DLC, the new expansion will be bringing a wide range of new content to the game.

What to Expect in the Borderlands 3 Director’s Cut DLC

After releasing four major story expansions over the course of 2019 – 2020, Gearbox unexpectedly announced a second Borderlands 3 Season Pass six months ago, with two further DLC releases. The first of these, Designer’s Cut, launched shortly thereafter. Unlike the previous expansions, Designer’s Cut did not feature story content. Rather, it introduced new skill trees for all four Vault Hunters, as well as the Arms Race game mode, among other things. The Director’s Cut DLC takes a similar approach; adding a range of supplementary content to the game rather than one single story expansion. However, it will nonetheless be adding some new story content.

Specifically, the upcoming DLC will include “Ava’s Mysteries,” a series of new story missions which will take place across Eden-6, Nekrotafeyo, Pandora, and Promethea. Gearbox has not gone into detail about what these missions will be like. However, the studio has teased that they won’t simply be combat-focused. “To help solve this string of seemingly paranormal happenings,” explains Gearbox; “you’ll sometimes need to stop and take stock of a crime scene and deduce your next steps based on environmental clues.”

Another major feature of Director’s Cut is Hemovorous the Invincible. This colossal Varkid is an all-new raid boss who will be found on Pandora. Players will only be able to challenge Hemovorous once they’ve completed the game’s main story. Opening her door isn’t cheap either – doing so will cost players 500 Eridium! (Fortunately, players will be able to get more Eridium than usual thanks to a week-long event which begins tomorrow.) Finally, players can expect to see new cosmetics and a new progression tracking system known as “Vault Cards,” when the DLC launches.
