Witcher Series Producer Confident Fans Will Like Henry Cavill as Geralt

The Witcher Netflix series is currently in the middle of production, with shooting taking place on location in eastern Europe. Although Netflix has yet to announce a release date, it could come out before the end of 2019. Indeed, it recently emerged that Netflix may be so happy with the series so far that more seasons could be greenlit before it even releases. Now, the series’ creative producer has said that he’s confident that fans will love Henry Cavill’s portrayal of Geralt of Rivia.

“The Audience Will Love Him,” Says Witcher Netflix Series Producer

Tomasz Baginski, the Witcher Netflix series’ creative producer, recently had an interview with Onet Film, a Polish media outlet. During the interview, Baginski was asked whether he saw Cavill in the role of Geralt from the start; “Even if I did,” replies Baginski; “I can’t say that, mind you, but of course I’m satisfied. The audience will love him.”

Witcher Netflix Series Supports Cavill Casting

Casting for the series has become a contentious topic among some fans. Most of the casting decisions have now been announced for both lead and secondary roles. Unfortunately, several decisions have attracted criticism (and opposing support) from fans for one thing or another. Addressing the mixed reactions among fans, Baginski says; “People have a right to judge. We get money also because we’re exposed to such critique. If someone feels better because they declared on the internet that they don’t like some casting choice, it paradoxically means that we’re doing our job well. We are supposed to provide entertainment to people, so if for someone such entertainment is slipping out their tongue on the internet, then cool. I understand that fans have their own imaginations, but everyone that will play in the series came through a thick sieve of castings.”

Baginski went on to address one particular area of criticism which emerged in two areas. First, the outrage from some fans over rumours that the person playing Ciri would be a non-white actress (a rumour which was incorrect). Then, secondly, similar outrage over the casting of Anya Chalotra; a British actress of Indian descent, as Yennefer. “Fans aren’t some homogenous group.” says Baginski; “Such statements are embarrassing to me, especially given that a big part of the noise came from Poland. But I don’t feel resentment towards the fans, I understand where it’s coming from. People care a lot about this project, they want it to conquer the world. Sometimes they’re too sharp in this will. And, to add to that, everyone has their own vision of The Witcher. I can only repeat that all the casting choices in the series are deliberate. There are no accidental actors.”
