Bethesda Confirms Fat Man Will Feature in Fallout 76

Fallout 76 will be set over a hundred years before the games which fans of the series are most familiar with. As a result, a lot of things commonly seen in the games may not be making a return appearance. Lack of human NPCs aside; well-known groups like the Brotherhood of Steel may not have been founded yet, while certain technological developments may not have been made. One iconic weapon which Bethesda has now confirmed will be making a return is the Fat Man; every Fallout fan’s favourite portable nuclear missile launcher!

Bethesda Confirms the Fallout 76 Fat Man

The news was recently confirmed by ComicBook.com, who asked the question of Bethesda. According to the studio, the Fat Man will be returning to the franchise for Fallout 76. Players will be able to blast mini-nukes around the mountains of Appalachia to their heart’s content. Well, so long as they can find a steady supply. The Fat Man’s return isn’t really surprising, however. Not only is the Fat Man one of the Fallout series’ most iconic weapons, but it’s also a weapon developed before the war. As such, Fallout 76 being set centuries earlier than other games in the series is no obstacle to its inclusion.

The Fallout 76 Fat Man Will Have Some Competition Thanks to the Game's Actual Nukes

Despite the weapon’s iconic status, Bethesda has yet to show any footage of the Fallout 76 Fat Man. This may change on the 8th of October, when a huge amount of Fallout 76 gameplay footage will start being posted across the internet. Certainly, the Fat Man fits in nicely with Fallout 76’s emphasis on nukes; for the first time, a Fallout title will allow players to shoot actual nuclear missiles, devastating entire sectors of the game world. This will allow players to create high-risk, high-reward areas of dangerous radiation. Reportedly, these nukes will also play a role in the game’s main story.
