It creates a genuine alien ecosystem where you're just another creature trying to survive - not the hero, not the chosen one. The creatures have their own behaviors and needs independent of your existence. The completely hands-off approach to player guidance combined with the haunting, beautiful world creates something that defies conventional game design in ways I've never seen attempted elsewhere.
