What balance do you think Nintendo should strike between innovation and tradition?

Recommended Posts

Nintendo walks a tightrope between radical gameplay experiments and comforting franchise consistency. Where should they draw the line? Should every mainline Mario game feature a completely new mechanic like gravity flipping in Galaxy or stick to proven power-star hunts? Is it wiser to release short spin-offs exploring VR or mobile before risking core series changes? How should they divide R&D between hardware breakthroughs and polish on established IP?

Nintendo should balance innovation and tradition by preserving core gameplay elements and beloved characters while embracing new technology and ideas. This approach maintains their unique identity, appeals to longtime fans, and attracts new players, ensuring continued relevance and success.

Nintendo should follow the "70/30 rule" where 70% of each game maintains beloved core mechanics while 30% introduces genuinely new ideas, ensuring familiarity without stagnation or creative risk.
