What’s your favorite NES game with a branching narrative or multiple endings?

Recommended Posts

Branching narratives weren’t just a modern feature; some NES games surprised players with different endings based on choices or hidden requirements. Was it toggling between light and dark paths, finding secret items, or mastering a hidden level?

My favorite NES game with a branching narrative is Ninja Gaiden. The intense cutscenes and dramatic story twists, though not leading to wildly different endings, made choices feel impactful and kept me engrossed in Ryu's journey. It was groundbreaking for its time!

Maniac Mansion's character selection system fundamentally changed how the story unfolded, with each teenager offering unique puzzle solutions and dialogue branches. This choice-driven narrative was revolutionary for console gaming.
