I totally agree with you on DSI — those early racing games had a charm that’s hard to find today. And Eden Games… Porsche Unleashed was just chef’s kiss, really wish they’d keep making stuff like that instead of letting new studios take over the franchises.
Westwood will always have a special place in my heart. I still pop in Red Alert 2 every now and then, the balance and the music… pure gold.
Novalogic is an interesting one — I loved the voxel tech at the time, it felt like stepping into a whole new level of simulation. And yeah, once 3D accelerators came along, things moved so fast.
Digital Illusions’ original work is so underrated. I feel like people forget that they weren’t always just another EA factory. Those early Battlefield prototypes had some real innovation behind them.
