What does “just barely visible” mean when adjusting brightness?

You know at the start of a new game, how it asks you to adjust the brightness so that something is “just barley visible”? What does that actually mean? I never know how visible it should be. If I take it really literally, everything is usually too dim.

I think it means the object or text should be visible. You should be able to make out its shape or read the text, but it shouldn't be comfortably clear.

In this situation, If you're still unsure, I'll advise you to try adjust the brightness in small increments and check if you can read the text..

Resident Evil 1 is my pick for this. Some gamers can't just stand the tank controls, and also the static camera angles, or even the graphics.

To me, 'barely visible' means I can discern the object's shape and outline, but it's still somewhat faint..
