killamch89 Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 With so many studios leaning heavily on sequels and established franchises, it raises the question: should more resources be put into creating new, unique IPs instead? While sequels often guarantee a loyal fan base and financial success, new IPs bring fresh ideas and can revitalize the industry. But is the risk worth it for studios? What do you think? Should developers focus more on innovating or stick to what works?
Scorpion Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 Developers should invest in unique IPs to foster innovation and creativity. Fresh ideas can invigorate the industry, despite potential risks.
killamch89 Posted December 27, 2024 Author Posted December 27, 2024 In my opinion, it really depends on the studio’s resources and goals. Creating a new IP is a huge risk - just look at how many promising games from smaller studios fail to gain traction. Sequels, on the other hand, are a safer bet and keep studios afloat. I think larger studios with the means to take risks should definitely explore new IPs, but for smaller ones, sequels might be the smarter choice. The industry needs both to thrive.
