Do you ever go into a games code to find secrets?

Have you ever gone into a games code to look for secrets? Or maybe you did it to alter the game in some way? I've never done that as I think that's something you could get banned for. I think.

Why in the world would I do something like that in the first place. There are limits to what I can do in games, and doing that is off it completely.
