With the hardware, it introduced us to shoulder buttons. Which was science fiction to us who wanted one. It also gave us the most lifelike graphics of any system of the era. Difficulty in a lot of games was ramped up. The capabilities of the SNES was awe inspiring. It showed that innovation can only go up.
