killamch89 Posted January 22, 2025 Posted January 22, 2025 There’s been growing debate about games being removed or banned from platforms due to concerns about political correctness. Some argue it's about protecting sensitive audiences, while others believe it stifles creativity and freedom of expression. Do you think it's fair to remove or censor games for political reasons, or should platforms allow creators more freedom regardless of the content?
Shagger Posted January 23, 2025 Posted January 23, 2025 The problem with this debate is the people who care enough to join the debate are last people who should be listened too. The extremists on both sides have no capacity for reason, compromise or even common sense. It's the people in the middle that are dispassionate enough to set a sensible limit on what is edgy and what is straight up offensive, but that same dispassion also makes them less likely to care enough to get involved with debate at all. Not to mention neither sets of extremists would be happy with the outcome and only make thier already loud, irritating complaints even louder. Ultimately, unless it's a clear attempt to jgst offend and provoke people, give the developers and publishers the choice on whare to draw the line and have both sides respect the creative decision. Give them the freedom to make the choice, but also charge them with the responsibility for that choice and everything that goes with it.
Scorpion Posted January 25, 2025 Posted January 25, 2025 Censoring games risks stifling creativity and diverse storytelling. Artists should have the freedom to express ideas, even if they challenge norms.
killamch89 Posted May 17, 2025 Author Posted May 17, 2025 The framing of this question assumes 'political correctness' is arbitrary rather than reflecting genuine harm. Games aren't typically removed on whims but because they contain content that a significant portion of potential players find genuinely degrading or traumatizing. Market economics, not censorship, often drive these decisions.
