Scorpion Posted April 12, 2025 Posted April 12, 2025 Are pets overrated in games, or do they genuinely enhance gameplay? While some titles showcase pets as vital companions offering unique abilities or narrative depth, others feature them as mere collectibles. How do pets contribute to immersion and player experience in different genres? Are there games that do it exceptionally well?
killamch89 Posted April 12, 2025 Posted April 12, 2025 I don't think they're overrated when implemented well. A pet that actually helps in combat, finds hidden items, or solves puzzles adds genuine value. The problem is when they're just cosmetic or, worse, require management without providing meaningful benefits. Fallout 4's Dogmeat strikes that perfect balance.
Shortie Posted May 8, 2025 Posted May 8, 2025 I can't say I have seen a game in which it involved pets and they seemed overrated. Most games I have played with pets, they seem to be implemented quite well and don't cause any issues with the game that the pet is involved in. I could see where they could be seen as overrated if they were in the way, annoying or even badly implemented into the game.
