Shortie Posted May 8, 2025 Posted May 8, 2025 It seems that no matter what video game we play now, if there is an online mode, you will likely see a ranked mode with it. Fall Guys just recently released their own ranked mode and whilst it is a lot of fun, it does make me wonder, could ranked modes be killing the fun in video games? What are your thoughts? Are ranked modes too much? Are they killing the fun in video games?
killamch89 Posted May 8, 2025 Posted May 8, 2025 Ranked modes aren't inherently problematic, but they've shifted developer priorities toward competitive balance rather than enjoyable chaos. Games like Overwatch have repeatedly nerfed fun but unconventional strategies to preserve competitive integrity, making casual play less spontaneous and creative over time. Shortie 1
Scorpion Posted May 9, 2025 Posted May 9, 2025 Ranked modes can sometimes reduce the fun by increasing pressure and competitiveness, leading to frustration. However, for many players, they add challenge and a sense of achievement. It depends on individual preferences—some enjoy ranked play, while others prefer casual, stress-free experiences. Shortie 1
Shortie Posted May 11, 2025 Author Posted May 11, 2025 I have to agree with you both, whilst ranked modes can be fun, the competitive side of playing ranked and also the changes that are made to the video games for ranked modes and tournaments can often make the game less enjoyable for those who are not into competitive playing on that specific game.
