killamch89
What underrated or easily overlooked feature in any Nintendo series deserves more praise? Is it the magnetism mechanic in Luigi’s Mansion’s Poltergust, the Phase Shift in Kirby’s Return to Dream Land, or the Photo Mode’s advanced filters in Pokémon Sword and Shield? Maybe the Y-Button shortcut in Zelda: Breath of the Wild or the Assist Trophies in Super Smash Bros. that spice up fights. Which small mechanic added depth or delight, but rarely gets mentioned in retrospectives?
Scorpion
My favorite hidden gem feature is the variety of creative power-ups in the Mario series, like the Super Leaf or the Cat Suit. These add unique gameplay twists and fun surprises, enriching the experience beyond standard platforming and showcasing Nintendo’s inventive spirit. killamch89
The sound design in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door creates an incredibly immersive world despite the paper aesthetic. Each area has distinct ambient sounds that complement the visual theme, and the battle sound effects are so satisfying that I sometimes make moves just to hear them. Nintendo usually gets praised for visuals, but their audio design deserves equal recognition.
The Blackangel
Hidden weapons in Zelda games. Almost every single one has a hidden sword. Zelda II is the only one I can think of that doesn't have any hidden weapons. But in the original Zelda there were 3 swords, in LTTP they introduced the Master Sword, which had upgrades to it. In OoT there's the big Goron sword. I couldn't stomach Wind Waker simply due to the graphical choices they made. Twilight Princess was so overdone that I just couldn't really get into it. Link's Awakening on Game Boy was amazing. I still prefer it to the remake on Switch. BOTW is a hard one for me to comment on because I’m having a bitch of a time getting into it. Unless you count everything on the plateau, I haven't even been to the first dungeon yet. I’ve been to Kakariko Village, and bought some improved clothes. At the moment though, I don't even know if I’m heading in the right frickin' direction. I know there's some of you who are absolutely in love with BOTW and TOTK. But so far, they just aren't drawing me in.
