Is early access ruining game releases, or helping developers?

Recommended Posts

Early access is something we see a lot now when it come to new games that are being developed for release. Early access allows gamers to play the game and reports bugs or other issues they find within a game to help the developers fix any issues before full release of the game.

What are your thoughts on early access releases? Do you feel this is helping developers?

Early Access has been a double-edged sword in my experience. It's given us gems like Hades that evolved beautifully with community feedback, but also normalized releasing unfinished products like Baldur's Gate 3, which despite its eventual quality, spent years in development limbo. The model works when developers commit to transparent timelines and consistent updates.

Early access can help developers gather valuable feedback and improve their games before full release. However, it can also lead to rushed launches and player dissatisfaction if expectations aren’t managed. Overall, it’s a double-edged sword that requires careful balance.

I agree, as much as I they can get some valuable feedback, it also leaves developers open for as you say, rushed launches due to impatience which then lead to bugs, some of which have in the past been game breaking.
