StaceyPowers Posted May 29, 2025 Posted May 29, 2025 How do you feel about unavoidable traps in games? I can think of two categories for these. -Traps where there is a cutscene if you walk into the trap, so you can’t do anything about what is going to happen, but you need to enter the trap either to progress the game or just to investigate an area. -Combat traps, i.e. scenarios where you could fight with an advantage if you were allowed to make full use of the terrain, but the game prevents you with no in-universe explanation why you can’t be strategic. Both of these annoy me.
killamch89 Posted May 29, 2025 Posted May 29, 2025 Absolutely! My brain fills in details that were never there - I remember Goldeneye looking photorealistic until I actually see screenshots and realize how blocky it was.
Scorpion Posted June 1, 2025 Posted June 1, 2025 Unavoidable traps can be frustrating, but they also add challenge and tension to the game. I understand they’re designed to test players’ awareness and skills. When used effectively, they enhance the experience, but excessive or unfair traps can detract from enjoyment.
Bizdustry Posted June 4, 2025 Posted June 4, 2025 (edited) Unavoidable traps can catch you off guard, but you can be ready for them by paying attention to the game. Learn their patterns and take your time to plan your moves. If you get caught, don’t worry—just keep practicing, and you’ll do better next time!. Edited June 4, 2025 by Bizdustry
