I learned to swim at 8 years old when we used to go to the beach every weekend. I've been terrified of water all my life. That's why I didn't join the Navy. But if I'm on land, and not in the water, but can see it, I'm fine. I don't mind laying on the beach and the surf washing over my feet, as long as the water isn't over a couple inches. But anything more than that, and I'll start panicking and have to be rescued.
