Xbox consoles, controllers, and games getting a price hike

Recommended Posts

So it seems the tariffs in the US are really started to take hold, as Xbox consoles, controllers and even games are expected to go up by as much as 25%. It's being said that there will be an $80-$100 price increase on current gen Xbox consoles. So $80 increase for the Series S and $100 for Series X. I believe recently PS5 console prices also went up, so it seems we're going to be paying a premium for gaming for the time being. Unless this tariff nonsense ends soon, which I don't see happening.

Are you worried pricing will continue to go up? Or could we see prices drop again in the near future?

I am deeply worried that prices will keep going up as a result of the trade war that is happening. The chances of prices dropping look slim at the moment, and it is something that I should be really worried about, to be quite honest.

These Xbox price hikes are brutal timing with the gaming market already struggling. I'm concerned this creates a dangerous precedent where $600+ becomes the new console norm. While component costs might eventually stabilize, companies rarely walk back price increases once consumers accept them. I suspect we'll see more aggressive subscription services as the hardware entry point rises. Gaming's becoming less accessible exactly when it shouldn't be.

This is not a surprise with the trade wars being the way they are at the moment. I did expect there to be some price hikes and did expect them to be quite high.

I don't think this is the last we are going to see of price hikes in the gaming industry though and we should be prepared to see more in the future, at least for as long as the trade wars stay.
