  1. I'm gonna go with Defiance, just because I doubt anybody else is going to. I played this game a lot when it first came out on the 360, and I loved it. Back then I thought the idea of an MMO on console was awesome, I hadn't really played anything like it before. The gameplay was not much to write home about, it was basically your standard third person shooter, but I remember it feeling pretty solid.

I was a member of a different video game forum at the time, which has since sadly gone defunct, and I remeber us recording a podcast episode all about Defiance. When I say podcast, I mean a youtube video with a static image and an audio track of four dudes with bad microphones that maybe 5-10 people listened to. Good times.

Defiance was also supposed to be this cross media sensation, with a TV show releasing at the same time as the game. There wasn't really any way to watch the show in my country, but I think I pirated the first episode. I don't recall it being very good.

  2. Continuing on the thread of watching mostly kids movies, my wife and I went to see the new Little Mermaid remake yesterday, and I have to say i was positively surprised. After really disliking the Lion King and Mulan remakes I really wasn't expecting much, but I though it was pretty true to the original, and the casting was pretty excellent. I thought Melissa McCarthy did a great performance as Ursula.

  3. I feel like this might be a hot take, but I really love Cyberpunk 2077. Sure, it had it's share of issues when it first launch, but I still really liked it. That was however on a PC that was not well equipped to run the game, but when I played it again on the PS5 I loved every second. I love the world, the lore, the characters, the gameplay, basically everything. It's also the only game where a love interest storyline has genuinely made me feel something.

Surprised to not see Burnout Paradise make the list. That game not only Killed Burnout, but pretty much the arcade racer as a genre. I hate that game.

Wow, I honestly don't think I've ever seen anyone talk shit about Burnout Paradise before. I really liked that game personally, and it was pretty well recieved critically as well. The original is sitting at 88 on Metacritic. My personal favorite of the franchise is Burnout Legends on the PSP, played the shit out of that game back in the day.

  5. Being Norwegian, I originally learned mostly British english in school, but the most effective learning tool for me was watching movies and TV-shows and playing video games. Most of those were in American english, so that's mostly why I've adopted the American style of writing.

  6. Not technically the last movie I watched, but I recently watched Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and I really enjoyed it. It's a perfect example of a movie that is meant for kids, is still enjoyable for adults. The same can not be said for The Emoji Movie, which I also watched recently for some reason. That movie had exactly one funny joke (in my opinion), and it was in the first 5 minutes. Puss in Boots however was enjoyable all the way through, had some genuinely funny moments, and I really loved the animation style. Reminded me a lot of Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse

  7. There have probably been other topics about this before, but I figure another couldn't hurt.

Are y'all into collecting video games, or do you just buy your games digitally nowadays?

Personally I do of course occasionally buy digital games, but there really is something about having physical copies. I've also gotten way more into going back and buying old games and consoles over the last few years. For example, I never had an N64 growing up, we had a PS1 instead. So a few years ago, I bought an N64 with a few games from my sister in law, and that set of a chain reaction that ended up with me owning about 30 N64 games a year later. I've also bough a lot of PS2 games the last few years. It's one of my favorite consoles of all time, and I think now is a great time to collect for it, since it's not quite old enough where people realize some games might have value, so you can usually pick them up quite cheap.

I also love collecting any old consoles, handhelds and accessories, sometimes to the frustration of my wife. Somewhat understandable when I own two, three or even four of some consoles.

What is your favorite thing to collect?

  8. I'm deep into Tears of the Kingdom, and I'm loving it so far. It's basically more of Breath of the Wild, which is one of my favorite games of all time, so I'm very happy. Both today and tomorrow are national holidays here in Norway, and my wife is out of town, so I'm pretty much playing it all day, every day at the moment

On topic, my gaming take that has defiantly caused the most friction is how I feel about soulboune games. I have the lack of difficulty options, I hate the "trial and error" approach to the the challenge these games tend to employ, I have what I've observed from them as a storytelling experience (although I admit what I have experienced in that regard is limited), I hate the fact you can't pause (I mean that is really stupid) and the community surrounding these games is toxic and entitled with a level of arrogance well beyond what they deserve to have.

If you like these types of games, good for you, but I just can't stand them.

I absolutely agree. The only soulsborn game I've spent any siginicant amount of time with is Elden Ring, and although I did enjoy what I played of it, I definitely think it's way overrated. I mean, I do see why people think it's a good game, but people talk about it like it's the second coming of Jesus and the best game that's ever been made.

Most of the time I played it was spent doing the same things over and over again to farm XP, just so I could level up enough to not die in two hits. The game does not explain anything at all to you, so you have to look up what pretty much every item you pick up does. I won't comment to much on the story, but as far as I got, there wasn't much story to be had.

I've never been a fan of extreme difficulty in games. I'm fine with a bit of a challenge, but having to replay the same boss fight 20-30 times is just excruciating to me. Whenever I try saying that to a soulsborn fan however, the answer is always the same:

    "Git gud"

  10. Just finished Resident Evil 4 Remake, and I absolutely loved it. I've never been a fan of the RE franchise, the only other games I've played at all is a few hours of Revelations on the 3DS and maybe an hour of the remake of 2, but I really enjoyed my time with 4. Makes me want to get the original for PS2 or Wii (I sadly don't own a Gamecube) just to see how it compares.

Bethesda can't make a truly great game without their modding community's input - Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind would be average games without the modding communities. Fallout is the same - as a matter of fact, Fallout 4 is mostly a broken buggy mess without mods. As the failures of Redfall and Fallout 76 prove, without the modding community, Bethesda isn't a great developer.

Although I don't necassarily agree with you, I see what you mean. Bethesda games definitely come with a certain level of jank, but I still love the Elder Scrolls and Fallout (except 74, of course) series without mods.

I'd also like to point out that Redfall is developed by Arkane, not Bethesda. They are both subsidiaries of ZeniMax, who is owned by Microsoft.

I just started playing Bioshock. This is my second play through. Such a great setting and the graphics and colors are amazing. I'm really enjoying it this time around. I enjoyed it the first time too, but I developed a greater appreciation. A game like this could easily be a new generation game by the looks of it.

I love Bioshock. For a game that is at this point 16 years old it still holds up really well, and still looks great.

I hate emulators. Emulation of any classic game makes me want to puke. This includes those flashback consoles that only ruined the games and ruined a lot of great memories. I'd like to wipe emulators off the face of the planet so that people would actually own the console and play it how it was supposed to be played.

I kind of torn on this one. On the one hand, I also love collecting and playing on original hardware, but sometimes emulators are extremely convenient. I absolutely do agree that in almost all cases, playing real, physical games on original hardware, on a CRT feels the best. For me, the exception is handhelds. Playing GBA games on something like my phone with a controller does make for a better gameplay experience than playing on my old frontlit GBA SP, or even my original GBA with no light at all. Playing PSP games on my phone with an actual analog stick also feels better than the little nubbin-stick on my original PSP.

But let me tell you, playing PS2 games on a CRT hooked up with an RGB-scart cable? Chef's kiss *mwah*

Where the hell did you find a pink PS2? The only color I know of it being released in was black. I think there was white, but I'm not sure on that one.

From what limited research I've done it looks like the pink one only released in Japan and Europe, so if you're from anywhere else that might explain why. I know they released quite a few colors, but a most of them were Japan exclusives I believe. The only ones I've seen in person are black, silver, and the pink one.

The pink edition also came in the most 2006-ass box you can imagine. Unfortunately I don't have the box for mine.

  15. Mine was yoyo9348. Yoyo because I had a phase in my early teens where I though yo-yos were really cool (I knew like 3 tricks), 93 because it's the year I was born, and 48 because I guess I just thought it was a cool number. Makes perfect sense, I know.

  16. I also own every single Playstation, but not every model. My collection currently consists of 2 PS1s (original), 4 PS2s (3 slims, one fat), 2 PS3s (one super slim, one original) PS4 (original) PS5 (disc) PSP (1000) and PS Vita (original).

My pride and joy among these is my pink PS2 Slim. Absolutely love that thing.

  17. I'm way deep into the whole Google ecosystem, so for me it's Gmail all the way. I use Outlook at work, and I strongly prefer Gmail. I just find it a lot easier to use.

I did experiment with having my own domain a few years ago, but it didn't really work out. I registered the domain *my last name*.pizza, so I had the email address anders@*last name*.pizza, which I of course found hilarious at the time. I did however learn the hard way that unless I paid an extra fee, the built in email provider on my domain service would delete emails after 30 days. Did not end up renewing that domain.

  18. I certainly used to think so. I had an RGB strip inside my PC case, one on the back of my desk, as well as a full RGB keyboard and mouse. I'm now pretty much officially past that phase. My mouse has no lights, my keyboard just has a white backlight, I just have a normal desk lamp, and the stip inside my case has been disconnected.

I still think RGB can look pretty sick in certain setups, but I personally prefer a more clean look nowadays.

  19. Absolutely, I've played a ton of emulators on my phone over the years. Way back in like 2012 a friend of me showed me him playing Pokemon Firered on his phone, and I was totally sold. A little later I bought a PS3 controller (even though I didn't own a PS3 at the time) and a special clip to attach to my phone just to play PS1 games.

Last summer I spent a lot of my time playing PSP games on my phone using a Razer Kishi controller, which honestly is a perfect combination.

There was also a time a few years ago where I kind of stopped giving a shit at my job at the time, so I would bring a bluetooth controller to the office and just play GBA games on my phone for large parts of the day.

  20. I bought a Wii U back in 2013, and I loved that thing. Being able to play on the gamepad alone without the TV was honestly kind of mind blowing for me at the time. Besides the obvious Windwaker, Mario 3D World and Smash Brothers, my favorite game on the system was probably LEGO City: Undercover. It was a Wii U exclusive when it launched, and it was so much fun. I also remember playing a ton of CoD: Black Ops 2 of all things, which actually had a surprisingly active community at the time. That game also had a very neat feature where you could play local Zombies multiplayer with one player playing on the TV and the other on the gamepad. Show me another console that can pull off that trick, I dare you.
